England narrowly defeat Bangladesh in a tense battle | Match Highlights | CWC25

England managed to clinch a win against Bangladesh with a 4 wicket victory, but it wasn’t easy at the barsapara cricket stadium in Guwahati on Oct 7,2025.

The match ended up really good and had fans invested right to the finish. What began as a simple chase turned into a test of nerves as the English middle-order crumbled.

How Bangladesh Set Their Total

The Bangladesh team scored 178 runs and were bowled out in 49.4 overs. Sophie Ecclestone led the English attack by taking 3 big important wickets, finishing 3/24. Charlie Dean, Alice Capsey and Linsey Smith each took 2 wickets and put pressure on the Bangladeshi innings.

Sobhana Mostary was a real standout for Bangladesh with a composed score of 60 runs off 108 balls, he held the innings together when the innings was wobbly. Further, Rabey khan provided their innings with some fireworks at the end of the innings.

She smashed an outstanding 43 runs off just 27 balls hitting, six fours and a six to make sure Bangladesh had something to defend.

Early Trouble for Bangladesh

The Bangladeshi openers struggled from the outset when Lauren Bell struck early. Then captain Nigar Sultana Joty followed by making a duck for Linsey Smith during the powerplay.

Here is a summary of the memorable moments of the match for Bangladesh:

  • Rubya Haider and Nigar Sultana Joty dismissed in the powerplay.
  • Sobhana Mostary kept the innings together with an important half-century.
  • Rabeya Khan gave a speedier 43 and gave Bangladesh at fighting score.
  • Sophie Ecclestone nabbed 3 wickets and drove through the  middle order.

The English bowlers bowled tightly after Bangladesh reached 108/5 as Ecclestone dismissed Fahima Khatun and Nahida Akter in succession. Cricmatch official fans watching the show would have been amused by the brutal English bowling, which contained the Bangladeshi attack.

England’s Rocky Chase

England began poorly with Marufa Akter making two dismissals in the powerplay. She trapped Amy Jones in front with a beautiful inswinger in the first over.. Tammy Beaumont followed her out the door, not helping England in the early stages.

The Middle Order Collapse

Just when it appeared that Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt had stabilized matters with a partnership of 40 runs, Fahima Khatun turned the match upside down with a spell that was nearly match-winning for Bangladesh.

Khatun’s devastating over saw Sciver-Brunt miscue a full toss to short midwicket after she made 32. She then trapped Sophia Dunkley in front for a golden duck in the next ball of the over. Emma Lamb became Khatun’s third wicket a few balls later as England gasped at 103/6 by the 30th over.

Fahima had brilliant figures of 3/16, which are her second-best figures in ODI cricket. Marufa Akter supported Fahima brilliantly with 2/28 from her opening spell.

Knight Comes to the Rescue

Captain Heather Knight showed exactly why she leads the side with an unbeaten 79 off 111 balls. She found the perfect partner in Charlie Dean, and together they stitched a match-winning 75-run stand. The pair batted with patience and determination, slowly chipping away at the target without taking unnecessary risks.

Here’s what made Knight’s knock special:

  • Stayed calm under immense pressure after the collapse
  • Built a crucial 75-run partnership with Charlie Dean
  • Remained unbeaten till the end on 79 runs
  • Guided England to their second straight victory in the tournament

Dean contributed a valuable 27 off 56 balls before departing. Sanjida Meghla claimed the last English dismissal when she removed Alice Capsey. But by then, Knight had done enough to see her team home in 46.1 overs.

What This Result Means

England ascended to the summit of the standings after a second consecutive victory in CWC25. They previously  obliterated South Africa by ten wickets in their opening match. Cricmatch official coverage illustrated how this intense win can be immensely helpful for England’s confidence moving on forward.

For Bangladesh, this represented their first competition loss this tournament after a sound beginning against Pakistan. They proved they can compete and bang with the best, especially with Fahima Khatun’s brilliant spell and Rabeya Khan’s explosive finish. Even with the narrow loss, the team will have plenty of positives moving forward.

Next, England will face Sri Lanka in Colombo, while Bangladesh will face New Zealand at the same venue in Guwahati. Both teams will look to take something away from this highly contested contest that displayed the competitive nature of this year’s tournament.
